Check-Out SecretaryI. Summary of Responsibilities - Check-out patients after office visits, schedule upcoming procedures, visits and radiology studiesThis position serves Reed Ave GI office.Job Classification: Category II Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.II. QualificationsA. Education Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent, MA certificate is a plusB. Experience - Familiarity with windows-based computer programsC. Skills - Good Communication skills Ability to multi-taskD. Knowledge of Basic medical insurance plans, CPT and ICD-9 codes and keeping current with updates and pre-authorization guidelinesIII. Job RelationshipsA. Regular interaction with patients, providers, staff and out-side clientsB. Works cooperatively with manager, other check out staff in the office, and patient careIV. Physical Activities and RequirementsA. Repetitive hand movement due to extended computer useV. Responsibilities - The duties and responsibilities of the check-out secretary include, but are not limited to:A. Check-out patients after office visits1. Provide paperwork for lab & radiology orders/instructions for testing a. Fax Radiology orders to TRHMC Radiology Department, with I STAT Creatinine (if needed) written on order2. Answer all questions received from patients on upcoming procedures/visits3. Document all appointments scheduled in patients electronic (chart attachment) or in paper chart4. Request precertification as needed for studies that are ordered5. Send anti-coagulation letters to mailbox bloodthinner OVB. Keeping brochures /instructions/prescriptions stocked for future useC. Complete paperwork for procedures and forward to the appropriate location (BCDH, SR, GI LabD. Take phone calls from lab/radiology departments questioning ICD9 codes and further information on orders.E. Closer to lock front door at 5:00 PM. Turn off TV & radio and take paperwork and charts to Medical RecordsDepartment.F.
