MagneticsJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY -We are seeking an experienced
Mechanical Engineer to be a key member of an effort to build
expertise and capability in soft magnetic laminations and core
assemblies, helping to drive strategic growth at Carpenter.-- This
individual is expected to have a broad mechanical and material
engineering knowledge base with a focus on processing of magnetic
laminations and a proven track record of delivering to set project
objectives.-- This individual will be responsible for developing
the capabilities and process necessary to go from soft magnetic
strip through core assemblies, building fundamental knowledge of
various processing techniques, and maintaining the company as a
leader in innovation of metallurgical related solutions.PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE Engineer I - Process Engineer R & D Soft
Magnetics
- Implement state-of-the-art technology to enable conversion of
high value soft magnetic strip to finished cores, including
stamping, annealing, coating (organic and oxides), core winding,
lamination stacking, and bonding. This includes designing and
establishing the sequence of operations, optimizing process inputs,
estimating cost of processing, and create standard operating
procedures.
- Play a lead role in researching and developing new processes to
optimize the production of laminations, tape wound cores, and
stacked cores for new products and to build fundamental knowledge
of process methods.
- Monitor existing engineering standards and processes as well
future technologies related to fabrication of magnetic stacks and
cores and proactively drive & secure intellectual property.
- Interact with Carpenter engineering and/or manufacturing staff
at Carpenter facilities to lead and assist with implementation of
process capabilities and improvements
- Scope out project needs, design experiments using standard
experimental design techniques and use advanced techniques for
component modeling, testing and data analysis.
- Support Alloy Design and Product Development, and Product
metallurgists in projects to find optimal methods of making
magnetic cores out of new alloys at the lab and production
scale.
- Prepare technical reports based on work performed.
- Interact with national laboratories, universities, and
industrial consortiums to jointly develop and evaluate new
processes and materials.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as
assigned.REQUIRED FOR THE Engineer I - Process Engineer R & D Soft
Magnetics
- Four-year college degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Physics or another related field.-- Basic experience
within Lean manufacturing environment combined with consistently
strong proven performance.--Ability to travel 10 - 30%.-- Six Sigma
or variation reduction training is a plus.
- The successful candidate will have practical work experience or
studies emphasizing process development and fabrication of soft
magnetic cores used for motor stators (stacked laminations) and
inductors (tape wound cores).
- Familiarity with specific processing techniques related to soft
magnetic laminations (Fe-Si, Fe-Co, etc.) is an advantage.
- Understanding of how to achieve and maintain tolerances in a
bonded stack and tape wound core.
- Experience with computer-based draft and design tools CAD (e.g.
Solidworks).
- Proficient project management skills are essential with
demonstrated drive and passion towards project outcomes. Ability to
make significant individual contribution to attainment of team
objectives.
- Must be able to set clear priorities, commit to achieving
deliverables, and deliver on commitments on time with
above-the-line accountability.--
- Ability to recognize, communicate, measure, and implement
actions to mitigate technical risks.
- Ability to provide support, leadership, and guidance to peers,
customers, and manager in key projects and opportunities and work
with management to develop and implement strategic plans for the
company.
- Has shown dedication to meeting the expectations and
