Construction Inspector is responsible for the construction
inspection of water and water treatment facilities. Ideally someone
with experience in utilities, water, and wastewater infrastructure.
The role would support Frederick County Utilities and water
treatment facility projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspect construction of water and wastewater infrastructure, e.g.,
transmission and distribution mains, interceptor and collector
sanitary sewers, service lines, pumping stations, treatment
facilities, etc. Ability to read plans and specifications.
Communicate with contractors and engineers in making field
corrections and changes from plans and specifications Willingness
to learn project management software. Check supplies, materials and
equipment against the approved material submittal/specifications
for compliance, and for defects or damages Check plans and
specifications for construction elevations and line Prepare and
submit project reports and records of work performed Document and
administer all project records on assigned projects Perform other
related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: Basic
knowledge of construction materials, equipment, tools and methods
related to the above projects Basic knowledge of local, State and
Federal construction standards, specifications, building codes and
other construction requirements Basic knowledge of construction
schedules and stages of construction Basic knowledge of civil
engineering practices, surveying practices and principles, and
mathematics Basic knowledge of potential hazards associated with
this type of work, with ability to effectively initiate and enforce
appropriate safety precautions Ability to effectively read and
interpret blueprints, plans and specifications Ability to
demonstrate sound technical judgment in the performance of assigned
duties Strong and effective spoken and written (English)
communication skills, including the ability to write and maintain
clear, concise reports and records Ability to develop and maintain
effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors and
the general public Preferred Skills/Abilities Experience with MS
Project, Expedition or Primavera software Education and/or
Experience • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental,
construction management, or a related field is often preferred. •
Entry Level, recent college graduates encouraged to apply. •
Technical Skills: Will need to learn and become proficient in
construction management software and familiarity with construction
materials and methods are essential • Communication Skills: Strong
verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effective
reporting and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Certificates/Licenses Preferred • Ability to obtain required
certifications as the job requires, such as EIT, Yellow Card,
(MOT), ACI and Soils and Aggregate). Alpha will cover the cost of
obtaining these certificates. Physical Demands The incumbent in
this position can typically expect to sit and use his/her hands to
handle and feel for more than 1/3 of the day. He/she can expect to
stand or walk for more than 2/3 of the day. Talking and listening
are also expected for more than 2/3 of the day. The ability to
climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, or reach with arms
will be needed for less than 2/3 of the day. This position requires
that the incumbent be able to lift items up to 70 pounds on an
infrequent basis. The incumbent in this position should have clear
vision at 20 inches or less. He/she should be able to view various
reports and forms as well as information displayed on a computer
monitor and have the ability to distinguish between different
colors. Depth perception, peripheral vision, the ability to focus,
and the ability to see from a distance are also necessary.
