Summary: The Transportation Manager for Live Operations ensures that a daily, weekly and mid-range transportation schedule is developed and executed in a safe, efficient manner. This includes oversight of all Live Haul drivers and transportation equipment operated by Bell & Evans. The position is responsible to lead and continuously improve the day-to-day operations of the Live Haul Transportation Operation related to safety, performance and cost controls while implementing best practices.ResponsibilitiesPlan and supervise transportation activities that bring live chickens from broiler farms to B&E processing plants in such a way as to facilitate the plants' multi-shift production scheduleIncludes:Driver SchedulingLive Haul Tractor and Trailer SchedulingLive Haul Equipment SchedulingFarm ForkliftsFan TrailersPlan and supervise transportation activities related to moving breeding stock amongst farm networkOversee the scheduling of daily and weekly transportation plans, adjusting to support the needs of the businessMonitor "systems" and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of daily, weekly and long-range objectivesSuggest appropriate KPI's, measure and share with organizationRecommend systems, software and other technology to improve driver and fleet operationsEnsure processes are in place to properly manage driver workforceOrganize training sessions for team members and ensure compliance to the company's training scheduleManage and report on live haul transportation costs while making recommendations for improvementEnsure organization and filing of all driver and other documentationReport maintenance and repair needs for transportation vehicles and equipmentConduct regular safety audits on equipmentEnsure compliance with company policies and shipping legislationStay up-to-date with safety regulationsRecommend equipment including tractors, trailers, safety technology, etc.Qualifications:Proven work experience as a Transportation Manager, Shipping Manager in a high volume, live animal transportation environmentExperience with transportation scheduling software or systemsFamiliarity with logistics software including ELD's, TMS, Driver Camera Systems, Live Haul Systems (M-Tech)Excellent organizational skillsAbility to supervise and train staffProblem-solving abilitiesLeadership skillsCommunication skillsCDL a PlusKPI's:Fleet Safety and ComplianceSmall Fleet Safety AwardsDriver RetentionDriver Performance Utilizing Encompass or other systemsSafetyMPGIdle TimeServiceEducation and/or Experience: Minimum 7-10 years' experience in live animal transportation or related fields.Physical Demands and Work Environment: The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and bend. The employee will be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee, at times, will work in a cold and or hot, wet, noisy environment and be required to travel to multiple sites.
