Position Title: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Classification: RSAA - Range 1
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement
Supervises: Various administrative/support personnel within areas
of responsibility Position Goal: To provide leadership and
direction for the District's instructional program to ensure fair
and consistent application of policies, regulations, and procedures
and the academic success of all students served.
Qualifications: Minimum five (5) years administrative experience;
District-wide/Central Office experience in an instructional
supervisory role preferred. - Master's Degree in Curriculum and
Instruction, Educational Leadership, or appropriately related
field; Doctorate in Education preferred. Experience in an urban
school district is preferred. Knowledge of learning theory, program
planning, curriculum development, and management of instructional
programs. Knowledge of current educational trends, methods,
research, and instructional technology. Proven ability to supervise
and work collaboratively with a team responsible for direct
oversight of academic programs. Strong verbal, written, and
presentation skills. Strong interpersonal skills evidencing the
ability to work with varied constituencies. Proven planning,
organizational, and project management skills. Strong skills in
collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data for a variety of
audiences. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this
position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental
duties: Under the direction of the Assistant to the Superintendent
for School Improvement, collaborate with the other functional
departments on District objectives, program initiatives, and
challenges. - Provide educational leadership, administrative
direction, support, guidance, and technical assistance for the
academic programs of the District, including, but not limited to:
Course of Studies, staffing, budget, scheduling, grading, etc.
Design, develop, and modify curriculum, learning materials, and
innovative educational programs in collaboration with appropriate
stakeholders as per the board-approved curriculum review cycle. In
collaboration with building principals, observe classroom
instruction to evaluate curriculum implementation (content,
materials, pedagogy, pacing and standards), student performance,
and program effectiveness. Assist building administrator with
implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of professional
improvement plans. Collect and analyze performance data, including,
but not limited to, State and District assessment regarding the
achievement of students, work samples, and other pertinent
information affecting the design and evaluation of curriculum and
instructional practices. Collaborate with appropriate personnel in
the supervision of the integration of technology into curricular
planning and instructional design. Utilize appropriate strategies
and problem-solving tools to make recommendations and decisions
concerning planning, budgeting, utilization of funds, delivering
services, and evaluation of services provided. - Establish and
update short- and long-range plans associated with areas of
responsibility, includinging, but limited to: School Improvement,
Strategic and Comprehensive Plans. Monitor and assess the
effectiveness and efficiency of contracted services in areas of
responsibility. Maintain a positive, collaborative working
relationship with the Board of Directors, District and school
staff, and community agencies. Prepare and oversee the preparation
of all required reports and maintain required records in
departments supervised. Supervise assigned personnel, conduct
annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for
appropriate employment actions, including, but not limited to,
hiring, firing, disciplinary action, etc. in collaboration with
other supervisors. Consistently represent the District in a
positive and professional manner. Attend training sessions,
conferences, and workshops to keep abreast of current practices,
programs, and legal issues associated with areas of responsibility.
Perform such other duties as requested/assigned by the Assistant
Superintendent of School Improvement and/or Superintendent of
Schools or their designee. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: - Full-time
(12-month) exempt position. Salary and benefits consistent with the
District's approved Compensation and Benefits Plan and/or
individual contract. EVALUATION: - Performance of this job will be
evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on
evaluation of personnel. The position holder must be able to
