SUMMARY: The Penn State Childrens Hospital is ranked by U.S. News &
World Report as one the Best Childrens Hospital across multiple
specialties. As a designated Level 1 Childrens Surgery Center, the
hospital is just one of eight in the nation, and the only one in
Pennsylvania, to achieve this designation through the American
College of Surgeons Childrens Surgery Verification Program. In
addition, our hospital boasts a 3-star rating for the Congenital
Heart Surgery program awarded by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
The Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMCU) is a 2021 AACN Gold
Beacon Award winner. This 18-bed unit provides an intermediate and
intensive level of care to a diverse and interactive patient
population ranging from infancy to adolescence. The top five
diagnoses seen are chronic respiratory failure/lung disease,
diabetes, severe acute asthma, acute respiratory distress, and
congenital heart defects. The unit also provides care to children
who experience physical trauma, have eating disorders, mental
health concerns, gastrointestinal disorders, nephrology disorders,
and scoliosis. The PIMCU is privileged to provide children and
families with all private rooms for a parent to stay overnight with

other allied health professionals, and our dedicated ancillary
staff. The Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMCU) is an 18 bed
unit where Registered Nurses care for infants, children and
adolescents with a variety of health concerns and conditions
including: those with a tracheostomy and on long-term ventilators,
patients who have had posterior spinal fusion, those with diabetic
ketoacidosis, pulmonary illnesses or genetic cardiac defects, those
who require heart rhythm monitoring or those who have been involved
in a trauma or accident. Our team includes pediatricians, pediatric
specialists, certified pediatric nurses and other allied health
professionals. The PIMCU provides children and families with all
private rooms that have space available for a parent to stay
overnight with his or her child. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Registered
Nurse with a license to practice professional nursing in the state
of Pennsylvania or a Registered Nurse from another state with a
Temporary PA Practice Permit 6 months of experience working as a RN
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly;
walk frequently. Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs
occasionally. Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs
occasionally. Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly. Able to
use hand for simple/firm grasping. *Appended to this job
