PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION Within the Center for Orthopedics: The primary purpose of your position as a member of the health care team is to assist in providing patient care and maintaining a safe and clean environment under the direction of a Registered Nurse in accordance with established nursing care policies and procedures. GENERAL INFORMATION Every effort was made to make this job description as complete as possible. However, it in no way states or implies that these are the only duties you will be required to perform. As a Nursing Assistant, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your duties. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work requires very frequent walking to various areas of the department. Must be able to stand, bend, lift and grab necessary items to maintain and perform procedures (51-80% of work time). Work requires very frequently lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs and frequent maneuvering and positioning patients up to 250 lbs. May be required to work with heavier capacities with mechanical lifts, walkers, additional staff, etc (51-80% of work time). Work requires other activities including; pushing/pulling wheelchairs, climbing stairs and stepstools, stooping and kneeling (21-50% of work time) Work requires manual dexterity for purposes of utilizing necessary equipment and evaluating patients. Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Generally good working conditions. Work may frequently involve unpleasant patient care related activities (51-80% of work time). Frequent potential exposure to infectious diseases (21-50% of work time). Subject to injury from confused, combative patients, families and visitors. May be required to work weekends and multiple shifts and/or able to work #available status# Universal Precautions apply. QUALIFICATIONS High School graduate or equivalent required. Satisfactory completion of recognized formal program for nursing assistant/ health care assistant preferred. BLS certification required. Pennsylvania state police criminal record check, child abuse history clearance and an FBI criminal history check required. Work requires basic computer literacy skills and keyboard proficiency to operate in multiple programs and navigate through files. Work requires interpersonal skills to communicate with team members. Team collaboration is frequently required to provide the highest quality of care. Social sensitivity and communications skills required to provide instructions and perform basic nursing care functions. Must be compassionate, professional, and empathetic when handling patient complaints and concerns while remaining focused on providing a positive patient experience (51-80% of work time). Work requires analytical ability to follow standard methods, policies and procedures to assist in providing appropriate care (51-80% of work time). Work requires a high level of mental and visual focus requiring mental application and attention to detail. Work is performed under tight schedules, must possess excellent time management and functional organizational skills to manage a variety of patient schedules (i.e meal times, bath times, accuchecks) in a short period of time (more than 80% of work time).
