The Division of Pediatric Neurology at Penn State Children's Hospital and the Penn State University College of Medicine have initiated a national search for an innovative and highly collaborative clinician to serve as Chief of Pediatric Neurology. The successful candidate will be a nationally recognized academic leader with a substantial record of leadership, clinical and administrative accomplishments, education scholarship and/or research productivity and teaching experience. We are seeking candidates with prior administrative and leadership experience, strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively inspire, manage, mentor and develop faculty and staff. Candidates should have a M.D. or D.O. degree and board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology.

Opportunity Highlights

  • The next Chief will be responsible for providing strategic direction for the growth and development of the Division, taking full advantage of the stature and resources of Penn State's College of Medicine and Penn State Children's Hospital.
  • Penn State Children's Hospital is the only children's hospital in central Pennsylvania and the region's only Level 1 pediatric trauma center.
  • The Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics.
  • The new Chief will provide leadership, vision and management in accomplishing the mission and goals of the division, Department of Pediatrics and Penn State College of Medicine in education, research, patient care and service.
  • The Penn State College of Medicine campus is located onsite and offers many opportunities to develop collaborative research and educational ventures.
  • Collaborative opportunities with basic and clinical scientists offer significant potential for development of the research arm of the division. A robust quality program in epilepsy is ongoing.
  • The Chief position includes the opportunity and challenge to build a division that meets the evolving needs for a growing integrated health care delivery system. This includes filling current vacancies, exploring the addition of sub-specialty services and potentially establishing a pediatric neurology residency.

About us

Penn State Children's Hospital opened a new free-standing hospital on the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus in February 2013 and construction is underway on a three-story expansion of the hospital, including a new neonatal intensive care unit and integrated Labor and Delivery service. The Children's Hospital is currently ranked among the nation's best by U.S. News & World Report in three specialties: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery and nephrology, and the Children's Hospital is a recognized leader in several disciplines, including pediatric oncology, pediatric orthopedics, pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery, neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatric trauma. The hospital is home to more than 200 pediatric specialists and subspecialists.
