PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION This position is responsible for managing and coordinating all activities necessary to obtain and maintain hospital certification as a Primary Stroke Center. Reporting to the Nursing Director of Cardiovascular Services and in collaboration with the Medical Director of the hospital#s Primary Stroke Center, this position is also responsible for the management of the American Heart Association#s Get With the Guidelines#-Stroke web-based Patient Management Tool#. GENERAL INFORMATION Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Also the ability to deal effectively with others in contacts requiring tact and diplomacy. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work requires very frequent walking to various areas of the hospital. Must be able to stand, stoop, crawl, lift and grab necessary items to maintain and perform procedures. Work requires prolonged standing during procedures (51-80% of work time). Work may require occasional lifting and positioning patients up to 150 lbs. May be required to lift heavier capacities with mechanical lifts, walkers, additional staff, etc (21-50% of work time). Work requires manual dexterity for purposes of utilizing necessary equipment to maintain and perform exams. Visual acuity necessary to evaluate anatomical detail. Work may require occasional, travel to other locations to provide program information and education (6-20% of work time). ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Work may occasionally involve working in areas with varying light levels and distasteful patient related activities (6-20% of work time). Universal Precautions apply. QUALIFICATIONS Requires an RN licensed or eligible in Pennsylvania; an out of state transfer must acquire a PA regular license within one year of hire. BSN or currently enrolled in a BSN program is preferred. Minimum of three years experience in Neurovascular, Critical Care, or Emergency Department Nursing. Current Pennsylvania RN license. NIH Stroke Scale Certification will be achieved early in employment and maintained. Healthcare experience required. Clinical background with in-depth knowledge of the stroke patient population preferred. BLS and ACLS certification required. Pennsylvania state police criminal record check, child abuse history clearance and an FBI criminal history check required. Work requires basic computer literacy skills and keyboard proficiency. Experience with AHA/ASA GWTG Stroke web-based Patient Management Tool a plus. Work requires basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. Work requires interpersonal skills to exchange information, communicate with team members, the Department of Health, and other organizations and a high level of social sensitivity when communicating with patients. Must be compassionate, professional, and empathetic when handling patient complaints and concerns while remaining focused on providing a positive patient experience (more than 80% of work time). Work requires analytical ability to find solutions to problems. Must be able to integrate and interpret data from diverse sources to identify solutions and resolve clinical problems. Independent judgment is frequently required. Will be required to work alone and without immediate assistance (51-80% of work time). Work requires a high level of mental and visual focus requiring mental application and attention to detail. Work is performed under tight deadlines, must possess excellent time management and functional organizational skills to manage a variety of tasks in a short period of time (more than 80% of work time).
