Job Description:

TRAUMA EXPERIENCE* 13-week Med/Surg Tele/Trauma travelers needed
for various shifts. BP5T is a 20 bed newly renovated (private room
model) unit. BP5T is located on the 5th floor of the Bush Pavilion
at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. The primary goal of
BP5T is to provide nursing care and telemetry monitoring to adult
patients, through a team nursing delivery model, in the areas of
Trauma, Medicine, and Video EEG monitoring with the flexibility to
serve the needs of any medical-surgical patient. We are looking for
applicants who are able to work well within a team environment to
provide efficient and comprehensive care to hospitalized patients
through cooperation of nurses, physicians and the interdisciplinary
team. Applicants must be able to make quick decisions, they need to
be detail oriented but, able to see the bigger picture for,
patients coming to BP5T often come from numerous areas throughout
the hospital (e.g. ED, PACU, Critical Care - ICU, SCU) so,
decisions made at the unit level directly impact patient flow and
care quality throughout the hospital. BP5T is looking for someone
who is enthusiastic about providing exceptional care and service to
our patients. Applicants should exhibit the following qualities:
integrity, flexibility, self-directedness, the ability to meet the
demands of a fast-paced environment. They need to be team-oriented
and have the ability to show compassion and empathy to those they
serve as well as the ability to foster positive working
relationships with their respective team members. Because BP5T is a
small unit - the staff are looking for someone who can assimilate
into a close-nit, fun-loving work environment. Patient assignments
are made at the beginning of each shift through collaboration of
the off-going and on-coming shifts and are determined by acuity and
continuity of care. Licensed staff members provide bedside shift
report to the oncoming staff, unless patients have opted out of
this process, upon which a nursing note should be noted to reflect
the patient's wishes to not be woken or disturbed. BP5T has a 4:1
nurse to patient ratio on Day and Evening shifts and a 5-6:1 nurse
to patient ratio on Night shift. It is the expectation that nursing
and assistive staff make hourly rounds on patients as well as have
the ability to communicate effectively with the team and
patient/family utilizing a number of communication tools including
white boards in the patient rooms. Our leadership team is comprised
of an Operations Manager- 1 Team Coordinator - 1 Nurse Educator - 1
CEP (clinical ladder) RN. BP5T's bedside team consists of an all RN
staff with Nursing Assistant and Unit Desk Clerk support.Job
Summary:Assesses plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates nursing
activities to meet the needs of the patient. Promotes adaptive
responses of patient and family to achieve the highest level of
patient care, promote safety, and maximize patient satisfaction.
Exhibits compassionate care during patient-nurse interactions.
Coordinates patient care and interaction of staff. Meets the
qualifications to provide care for patients in their assigned
nursing unit. Responsible for ensuring the very best patient and
family experience by optimizing all interactions.Job
Duties:Completes assessments as established by scope of practice
and unit standards.Addresses physical, psychological, social,
cultural, and spiritual needs of patient and family throughout the
continuum of care.Formulates, coordinates, and provides plan of
care as established in unit standards including, patient and family
education, family needs and discharge planning throughout
hospitalization with members of the interdisciplinary team.Provides
direct patient care including, treatments, medications, and
diagnostic studies according to policy and procedure.Evaluates
effectiveness of nursing interventions and revises plan of care
based upon patient response to interventions.Initiates
collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other
interdisciplinary team members and acts to proactively resolve and
facilitate patient needs.Problem solves, troubleshoots and takes
corrective measures in the care and handling of
equipment.Participates in unit-based decision-making regarding the
utilization of evidence- based practice.Actively participates as a
team member working toward team goals of the unit and organization
and is accountable for unit and system specific metrics.Actively
participates in patient quality and safety education programs and
other activities designed to improve departmental and
organizational quality and safety.Work is typically performed in a
clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific

Shift: 12 HR NIGHTS. Must be willing to float to similar or lower
