Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal
day camp/playground program. Provides a quality experience to
children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect,
responsibility, and caring.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children in the program
by providing appropriate supervision and interactions.
- Leads program activities that are culturally relevant,
developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA
values.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness
standards.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related
to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and
emergencies.
- Assist the Program Director in carrying out activities relating
to ensuring and measuring positive outcomes for children, parents,
and staff.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff.
Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all
interactions. Assist the Center Director or Group Supervisor with
any other duties required or asked to maintain and provide quality
childcare.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must meet one of the following educational
requirements:
- A high school diploma, or a general educational development
certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or
university in early childhood education, child development, special
education, elementary education, or the human services
field.
- A high school diploma or a general educational development
certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training
described in 3270.31 (c)
- A high school diploma or a general educational development
certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or
university in early childhood education, child development, special
education, elementary education, or a human services field and 1
year of experience with children
- A high school diploma or a general education development
certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum
described in 3270.31 (c)
- A high school diploma or a general educational development
certificate and 2 years' experience with children.
- The ability to meet the requirements of the Pennsylvania Code
Title 55 Chapter 3270 Public Welfare Group Supervisor and/or
Assistant Group Supervisor qualifications and
responsibilities
- Ability to communicate positively and professionally, both
written and spoken, using the English Language
- Lift items weighing up to 60 pounds
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- The ability to reach a child from 30 feet in 10 seconds without
danger to his/her health
- Ability to demonstrate good decision-making skills,
intelligence, flexibility, emotional maturity, a positive outlook,
enthusiasm, and a professional attitude towards all families and
staff
- Willingness to work with others including all staff members,
children, and parents
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a
variety of outdoor/indoor settings.This job description is not
