Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Penske Senior Systems Specialist - IBM i position is response
for providing first level support to all end-users of the IBM i
environment including but not limited to: Job Scheduling, Report
Distribution and Access Client Services (ACS) for in-house and
remote users. You will mentor other computer operators while cross
training within your department to provide backup support for all
positions. You will be expected to fill a vital role in the success
of the IT organization by working closely with MIS and business
users to maintain and enhance daily IBM i operations.
Major Responsibilities:
• Ensure successful completion of all jobs on the IBM i LPARS
including scheduling of new jobs in automated system (Robot)
• Make scheduling decisions and prioritize workload to use system
resources to their capacity
• Troubleshoot, research, resolve and escalate system problems
where appropriate
• Ensure successful completion of all required and requested
reports to applicable departments or users
• Complete all backups, catalog tapes, and send to offsite storage
to ensure system recoverability
• Monitor network for outages and take appropriate corrective
action
• Participate in daily Turn-overs with Offshore to ensure smooth
transitions between shifts
• Daily maintenance and monitoring of the system supporting the
following critical business functions/applications:
• Monthly Financial Close for Penske Truck Leasing and Penske
Logistics
• Thoroughly document changes, processes, and procedures
• Daily printing and handling of checks
• Must know/understand the daily production system job schedule
• Other projects and tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
• Two year Associates degree or equivalent technical school
• Excellent organizational skills with particular ability to
prioritize work and to work independently
• Basic knowledge of IBM i hardware and attached peripherals such
as tape drives & printers
• Awareness of TCP/IP and network concepts such as DNS & server
ports
• Ability to monitor IBM System Status, storage, job processing &
performance
• Understanding of IBM Operations commands
• Ability to review and understand system operator messages, QHST
log entries and job logs
• Must know the Penske Change Management proces
• Must have strong technical, analytical and proven project
management skills
• Proven ability to learn new systems strongly preferred
• Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information
• Ability to work independently, think creatively and analytically,
and make quick and sound decisions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to self-start and multitask in a fast-paced environment
and prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision
• Working knowledge of BRMS
• Position requires work schedule flexibility, possible overtime
and the ability to work remotely
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of
the job
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule,
work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment
application, submit to a background investigation (to include past
employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are
required.
