The Systems Programmer (SP) is responsible for the operations,
reliability, performance, recoverability, security and capacity
planning of corporate Power Server hardware, IBM i operating system
and certain infrastructure
applications/solutions (like HMC, PowerVM/VIOS, PowerHA Global
Mirror, IBM DS8000 and V5000 storage servers, backup and recovery,
data replication, and other 3rd party tools).
This position will be one of the senior technical experts in the
organization and will be expected to fill a vital role in the
success of the IT organization particularly IBM i Operations. The
SP will work independently for design and
deploy of complex tools/technology and will work closely with
senior technical staff (like Sr. Systems Programmer title) for more
complex tools/technology implementation.
The Systems Programmer is responsible for the strict adherence and
will insure that all implementations meet department compliance
policies, internal control procedures and industry best practices.
The SP is also responsible for researching and evaluating
newer/emerging technologies and advises IT management on their
usefulness at Penske.

Install, configure and operationalize distributed IBM i servers and
infrastructure applications to support business processing
Design and implement disaster recovery plan for IBM i networked
servers, OS, DBs and software applications.
Responsible for the general operations of the distributed IBM i
server environment, including performance, reliability and
efficient use of hardware, software and network resources.
Design, deploy, train and operationalize security tools/solutions
on IBM i.
Execute technical solutions to department quality standards.
Manage b2b file transfers for internal/external users/vendors.
Expected to resolve customer issues in a timely manner as 2nd/3rd
level technical contact.
Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as
Conduct research on emerging products, services, trends, protocols
and standards to determine their usefulness at Penske.
Monitor and test server/software performance and provide statistics
Assess need for any system reconfigurations and execute them if

Provide project management support for major projects.
Perform asset management of IBM i hardware, software and related
technologies & tools including maintenance of documentation and

Bachelor's degree in a related computer field is required. Higher
degree is preferred.
IBM i and related certifications are preferred.
10-15 years of IT experience.
5 years of project management experience. 3 years should be as
project IT lead.
5-7 years of functional experience at mid-to-senior level for IBM i
8-12 years of functional experience with IBM i server
Mid-to-senior level experience in the following aspects:
IBM i server technologies including planning and implementation of
IBM i OS security, backup, monitoring/alerting, data replication,
Ideal candidate will have prior working experience with IBM PowerVM
virtualization technologies such as VIO server (VIOS), SR-IOV, and
NPIV, as well as good working knowledge of Independent ASP (IASP),
PowerHA Global Mirror, Power Enterprise Pools, virtual HMC
appliance, SAN (fiber) connected external storage
3rd party software like MQ, BRMS, PowerHA Global Mirror, Robot
products, PGP, IBM Data Replication CDC, Linoma GoAnywhere MFT.
Planning and implementation of OS upgrades, PTFs and 3rd party
Excellent knowledge of SQL and CL. Knowledge of QShell, Python,
Java and Git is a plus.
Good Troubleshooting skills for application/system performance
problems by utilizing tools like IBM iDoctor, DBMON Traces, IBM i
SQL Services and Performance Navigator.
